Duff depth

n. The thickness of the duff layer.

Duff depth is measured to estimate duff load (weight per acre).  Duff load can be estimated as the product of duff depth times duff bulk density  or by drying and weighing of duff samples from fixed area plots. Some applications may require separate estimations of upper duff depth and lower duff depth.

• Units

   

  Preferred units for duff depth are cm in technical reports and papers. Fire Management in the United States still uses the English units in. See the following duff depth units conversion table for conversion factors.
