Litter load

n. The mass per unit area of the litter layer.

Litter load is often estimated as the product of litter depth and bulk density or the weight of the oven-dried litter from fixed-area plots.

• Units

   

  Preferred units for litter load are kg/m2 in technical reports and papers. Fire Management in the United States still uses the English units t/ac. See the following litter load units conversion table for conversion factors.
